Growth Story
Recovery Tech was founded in 2019 by a group of physicians and IT leaders — Dr. Kasra Afsahi, Dr. Maryam Soheilifar, Dr. Noushin Mehrbod, Dr. Nazanin Vahed and Omid Seyed Esmaili. This team developed a game-based virtual reality device that utilizes mixed and virtual reality, AR and AI to enable stroke patients to engage in therapeutic physical exercises for effective rehabilitation.
The Challenge
Unfamiliar with the Canadian startup ecosystem, Recovery Tech lacked knowledge of the Canadian market and how to improve their product and company’s presence for the Canadian healthcare industry and, more specifically, the neuro-rehabilitation sector.
Recovery Tech participated in Synergy Lab’s Pioneer Program, where they gained a thorough understanding of how to achieve product-market fit. This enabled them to identify gaps in the neuro-rehabilitation sector and communicate how their solution would solve those gaps in the Canadian market. After completing the Pioneer Program, Synergy Lab connected Recovery Tech with industry resources to facilitate their development and introduced them to the subject matter experts they needed to incorporate their business within Canada.
Recovery Tech Today
Following approval from the World Health Organization’s International Clinical Trials Registry Platform, Recovery Tech’s clinical research was accepted and presented to McMaster University and medical conferences such as the Neuroscience Institute and the International Conference on Virtual Reality in Medicine, where they won the “Best Paper” Award. Recovery Tech’s clinical research papers have also been published in the International Journal of Biomedical and Biological Engineering, establishing Recovery Tech as the leader in rehabilitation technology for patients with neurological disorders in Canada and internationally.
